Every year in early December the Milwaukee Public Market hosts the Annual MATC Parade of Gingerbread Houses. All gingerbread house entries are created by MATC’s baking and pastry arts associate degree and baking production diploma program students. They are on display from Saturday, Dec. 2, through Wednesday, Dec. 13, at the Milwaukee Public Market.

They added a new twist this year that features some of the gingerbread houses being designed to look like some of the famous Milwaukee landmarks – Miller Park, the new Bucks Arena and the Calatrava Art Museum.

We thought they were particularly cool!

The public is encouraged to view and bid on the gingerbread house creations. Proceeds from silent auctions for each entry will be used to offer scholarships to students in baking programs through the MATC Foundation, Inc.

In addition to the featured landmarks, the parade of gingerbread houses also included lots of other fun traditional gingerbread house creations. From a Nightmare Before Christmas gingerbread house to an abominable snowman gingerbread house to a fun take on the inside of a gingerbread house, we enjoyed looking all of them.

Visitors are also invited to vote for the “people’s choice” scholarship winner in the traditional gingerbread house competition and also in the Gingerbread Pro competition. The Brewers Community Foundation and the Milwaukee Bucks have donated funds to the MATC Foundation’s scholarship program as part of this new partnership.

So if you’re looking for a fun indoor activity between now and December 13th, this is definitely a fun one! And don’t forget to cast your vote for your favorite.

While you’re at the Milwaukee Public Market, be sure to also check out a few of my other favorites…

C. Adam’s Bakery has some of the best pastries you will ever taste! Trust me, their chocolate croissant is definitely worth the calories. And, the kiddos will love the sprinkle holiday cookies.

Anodyne Coffee is right at the entrance to the market from St. Paul. It will make the perfect pair to your C. Adam’s treat. I like to go with a classic Costa Rican blend, but their lattes are fabulous as well.

On the Bus Milwaukee is perfect if you’re around for lunchtime. Their avocado truffle toast is to die for. I could literally eat it daily. Bonus: they offer a special menu with kids options. #score

Last, but not least, don’t forget to save a little time for bus watching. Noah had a blast just hanging out upstairs and watching all of the cars, buses and construction workers out the window.
