It’s a holiday week and we’re pulling out all of the stops with fun activities – even at home! So, what better way to celebrate than with homemade donuts.
This was a first for us and they turned out so good that I couldn’t help but share them here. These homemade donuts are so easy and delicious that they will definitely become a new weekend staple in our house.
To make these homemade donuts, you only need three simple ingredients: Pillsbury (or another brand) grands biscuits, oil and cinnamon sugar.
Start by putting all of the biscuits on a plate and then make a holes in each of them to shape them into donuts. As strange as it sounds, I used a little medicine cup to poke my holes. It was the perfect size and it make them into perfect circles for mini donut holes.
To cook the donuts, you’ll want to put a 1/2 inch of oil in a frying pan and let it heat up. You can use canola, vegetable or peanut oil. We had peanut oil in the house so that’s what we used and it worked perfectly.
Use a tongs to gently place the donuts into the pan. You’ll want to cook them on each side for about 1-2 minutes until they are lightly brown on each side.
After you pull out all of your regular donuts, you can use the little insides that you pulled out to make donut holes. Put them in the pan and cook them the same way – about 1 minute on each side until they are lightly browned.
At this point, you can use whatever any toppings that you like. We had cinnamon sugar in the house so that’s what we used. We simply placed the cinnamon sugar in a bowl and coated each of the donuts with the cinnamon sugar. One of the recipes I looked at for these said to dip the donuts in butter and then cinnamon sugar. We did that but thought the butter was completely unnecessary and they tasted better without the butter. As long as you do a light coat when the donuts are still warm it will stick to them perfectly.
Voila! And there you have it – homemade donuts! Enjoy!
