As promised, I wanted to share some of our favorite places in Door County that we loved and found to be especially great for adults. Although, while they are great for adults, we brought Noah along for everything and he had a blast too.
In reality all of the places in this post and my post on Door County with Kids are really fantastic for the whole family. I was simply trying to split them up into two blog posts so it wasn’t as overwhelming.
Harbor View Park & Marina
7809 WI-42, Egg Harbor, WI 54209 | Website
What is it? Harbor View Park is located in heart of Egg Harbor. It’s a little park a walking path, gazebos, boat marina and playground. The farmer’s market takes place in Harbor View Park on Friday mornings from 9 am to 1 pm from late May through the end of October. Egg Harbor’s Concerts are on Thursday nights at 5PM and are free to the public. Bring a lawn chair or a blanket, and enjoy the terrace setting in the park. Carry-in picnics are welcome.
What we loved… The sunset is phenomenal! I’ve heard a lot of people talk about how beautiful the Ephriam marina and views are but I thought this park was just as incredible. We learned on the Door County Trolley ride that Egg Harbor just went through a multi-million dollar project to enhance the park and marina. It’s truly beautiful. Don’t miss the playground at the bottom of the hill. It’s kind of hidden down there. And, next to the playground is also a bike rack that houses the public-share bikes that are completely free to use!
Door County Peninsula Winery and Distillery
5806 WI-42, Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235 | Website
What is it? Located in the heart of Carlsville (10 miles north of Sturgeon Bay), Door Peninsula Winery offers a full tasting experience. Enjoy free samples of all wines and ciders offered by Door Peninsula Winery daily. Sample gourmet foods like Cherry Wine Cheese, homemade fudge, mustards, jellies, salsa and more. Fat Louie’s Olive Oils & Vinegars are also available for sample & purchase. Tour the winery production area for only $3 per person. Visit Door County Distillery, attached to the winery, for samples of Award-Winning Gin, Vodkas, Brandies & Whiskey.
What we loved… We tried a lot of wine in while we were in Door County, but we found Door County Peninsula to be the best. Their tasting room was spectacular. Not only was their wine delicious, but the tastings were free and the staff was very friendly and helpful. They even gave Noah a little cup of wine crackers for a snack while we enjoyed our tastings.
Door County Creamery (+ Al Johnsons)
10653 N Bay Shore Dr, Sister Bay, WI 54234 | Website
What is it? A Farmstead Creamery making our own cheese from our herd of dairy goats and local farm milk. This milk and cheese are used to create fresh baked sandwiches and handmade gelato. Also available are hand picked value wines and craft beers.
What we loved… This is actually three-in-one! Spend a morning going to Sister Bay and get pancakes at Al Johnson’s – and see the goats on the roof! Then, stop by the little beer garden next door and play checkers and giant Jenga. Then, walk down the road and get some goat cheese at Door County Creamery. I am a huge goat cheese lover and theirs is the best! If you have time, they also offer a tour of a goat farm. We didn’t get to do it, but it sounds pretty fun.
Glacier Ledge Restaurant
8103 Highway 42 N, Egg Harbor, WI 54209 | Website
What is it? Glacier Ledge is a place to slow down and enjoy lively conversation with family and friends. Chef Lawrence creates shareable plates prepared fresh to arrive at your table as they are ready. Good food shouldn’t be rushed. Relax, taste, savor and enjoy with a glass of wine or locally brewed beer. Guests have the option to dine outside on the patio or enjoy the comfort of the hearth inside.
What we loved… Their food was amazing! This was by far the best meal we had in a very long time. Their small plates are perfect for sharing and trying lots of new things. They don’t advertise a kids menu, but they offer a kids mac and cheese that is to die for.
Hatch Distillery
7740 WI-42, Egg Harbor, WI 54209 | Website
What is it? We are a small batch distillery crafting spirits with local Door County organic grains and honey. We partner with hard working organic farmers and honeybees because we believe that the best spirits can only be made with the best ingredients. No shortcuts. Honestly.
What we loved… Craft cocktails, local ingredients, friendly staff and an incredible atmosphere. Chris was a big fan of their brandy old fashion. Noah enjoyed his first {craft} kiddie cocktail.
Pink Bakery
7778 WI-42, Egg Harbor, WI 54209 | Website
What is it? Pastries, pies, cupcakes, specialty and wedding cakes, cookies and homemade breads! We are open every day May 1 – Fall Fest, as well as holiday weekends in winter. Stop in for a sweet treat and a cup of fresh hot coffee, cappuccino or espresso.
What we loved… Breakfast or dessert. So tasty. Or, dessert for breakfast. Noah enjoyed this lovely cheery cupcake for breakfast. They also have a small patio and lawn games out back.
Wild Tomato
4023 WI-42, Fish Creek, WI 54212 | Website
What is it? With Door County’s only wood-fired oven, Wild Tomato is a year-round restaurant that is known for their pizza. Now with two locations (Fish Creek and Sister Bay), they are a family-friendly, casual restaurant with an extensive craft beer and wine list.
What we loved… Best pizza I’ve ever had. The crust is incredible. For the kiddos, they had a peanut butter & jelly pizza. Noah was a big fan.
Door County Brewing Company
8099 WI-57, Baileys Harbor, WI 54202 | Website
What is it? We are a craft brewery with an emphasis on Belgian style beers. Enjoy the tap room by sampling a flight of beers, a full pour or growlers to go. We have live music on the weekends as well as a food truck.
What we loved… We were pleasantly surprised by Door County Brewing Company. For some reason we were expecting a touristy bar with mediocre beer. We were very wrong. The atmosphere at Door County Brewing Company was laid-back and was very family-friendly. The little beer garden out back had lots of tables and a fire pit for cooler nights. They have a nice selection of games that you can play while you enjoy a beer. Their beer was fantastic, as well. They had a lot to choose from so the flights were perfect.
